Lovongo Cay, Population 5. In a place where most food is shipped in from the Continental United States eating local is a unique challenge in the Caribbean Islands. Despite year round sun, gardening continues to be a difficult task in these islands due to a seasonally wet climate, and perpetually weak water infrastructure. Caretaker "Santa" gathers his eggs on Lovongo Cay each Friday to sell on another island, nearby St. John. A longtime resident of Lovongo, he is in charge of St. John's local, organic egg source.
